Macular Degeneration Vision Solutions
Understanding the effects of macular degeneration can be challenging. Even though the medical field offers treatments like lasers, injections, surgery, and specialized vitamins, the underlying damage often leads to a significant loss of central vision. The damage done to the visual field is known as scotomas. The damage created by it makes it hard to perform visual tasks that most people take for granted, such as: Reading and identifying distance object. Walking confidently due to the inability to gauge terrain area objects. Identifying people's faces. Travel Vision is limited and bumpinginto objects. Reading near task is affected. In general, our lifestyle changes from normal independence to dependence. This is when Low-Vision Optics can help. We do not diagnose the disease nor perform any medical treatment, such as injections or retinal surgery. What we do is use our knowledge of Optics to provide you with the best solution so you can gain independence by accomplishing visual tasks with electronic telescopes, reading magnifiers, and microscopes.
Magnification
The principle of low vision involves using magnification. Magnification allows astronomers to view distant planets; its concept is applied in low-vision optics. Scotomas, or blind spots, caused by macular degeneration are stationary and do not increase in size when using magnification. Low-vision devices magnify the objects we see, making the scotoma less noticeable. As a result, patients can see more of the object, reducing the distraction caused by the scotoma.
